6 English Idioms for Corporates

People who want to improve quality of their English communication would know importance of  idioms. In this post will try to cover 6 commonly used idioms in corporate world. It will be positive change if we start using them in our day to day conversation.

So let start with our topic

1. thrown in the deep end: throwing into uncomfortable situation without any preparation.

example: Manager had really thrown me in the deep end by asking me to work on tool for which I had no idea. And that too without any formal training

2. out of one's depth: in a situation that is beyond one's capabilities

example: Ramesh found himself out of his depth in role assigned, so asked his manager for bit of handholding during transition period.

3.  learn the ropes: to learn the basic task to be able to do your task efficiently.

example: New joiners are asked to focus on learning the ropes for initial few months.

4. think outside the box: think creatively and solve problems.

Resources should be groomed and provided space to think outside the box. It would help in long run.

5. steep learning curve: someone has to learn something difficult or is 180 degree apart from what they already know.

example: For Financial experts learning data mining tool was a steep learning curve.

6. climb the corporate ladder: progression of roles throughout a career.

To climb the corporate ladder it is important to gradually improve our visibility and have a holistic perspective

So that's it for today.

Will comeback with new interesting topic in my next post.

So stay tuned and till then Good Bye !!

Lean Manufacturing

Lean Manufacturing

Lean Manufacturing even called as Lean Production of simply Lean.

It’s a set of tools for carefully identifying and then systematic removing “Muda” from manufacturing process.

A pro-employee system which along with other types also considers waste created through

1.       Overburden of resources (“Muri”)

2.       Unevenness in work load (“Mura”)

What is waste for lean?

Anything and everything which does not add value.

So Lean is a set of tools which removes anything which does not add value to overall process.

Removing waste reduces improves quality as well as reduces production time and cost.

Lean – Toyota way

In Lean complete focus is on waste and its reduction

There’s a second approach of Lean developed by Toyota Production System (TPS).

Its focus is on smoothening the flow of work which in turn removes “Mura” (unevenness) naturally.

Experimental Marketing

These are marketing techniques which are new, its strategies have never been tried before and their results are unknown.

Experimental Marketing means, doing an experiment with a new product as well as with consumer, XYZ Company is introducing a new product to the customers. Company never know what will be its end result in the market, company is thus taking risk on its new product.

Many equate it with Experiential Marketing even Google. Before writing this post tried searching for same but every time I did that results were flooded with content explaining Experiential marketing.

Very much possible that at one point of time even experiential marketing technique was experimental in a way. But has lost its uniqueness as many companies are now using this technique in some or the other way.

One Good example of this technique that I came across was that used by BlinkBox

Blinkbox, is a UK-based transactional (purchase and rental) video-on-demand (VoD) service, now known as TalkTalk TV Store,

Just before the launch of Game of Thrones series on Blinkbox  they got a dragon skull being dumped on Dorset beach.

This skull  was of size of a luxury bus so naturally gained huge attention  along with media coverage.

Moreover on launch of Game of thrones on Blinkbox it saw a 632% year on year revenue increase and also achieved its biggest ever day of  trading.
